The Legend of Two-Toed Tobias Quest Guide by Skryer Councilor - November 25, 2008
The Three Barrel Cove Wilderness area has gotten a major makeover, much to the delight of players who are looking for big experience points for their low level characters. What's even more interesting are the new quests that came with the update. They may be low level quests but they are challenging enough even for the level-capped characters. One of the quests in the area is called the Legend of Two-Toed Tobias. The quest is bestowed by NPC Laurent Chastel who's just standing north of the Salty Wench Tavern.
BACKGROUND
According to popular tale, Tobias Warbuckle was a mighty pirate captain. The mere mention of his name would make ships turn over their cargo. Even Garl the Grey stayed out of Tobias' way. Apparently, Tobias' crew mutinied and murdered him for all the gold in his cargo hold. In his dying breath, Tobias vowed revenge, taking the souls of his entire crew. It is believed that Tobias' voice can still be heard howling for vengeance from the lighthouse outside of a camp. Your job is to investigate and find if the tale is true.
GETTING TO THE QUEST
From the tavern, you have to make your way west and follow the footpath. If you reach a bend in the road, you will find Crow's Nest lighthouse. This is an explorer point so you can get extra experience points. From there you can just jump down into the water and swim across the shipwreck. Make sure you have underwater action item as you need swim underwater to get to quest entrance known as The Wheeping COve, rumorde to be the resting place of Two Toed Tobias, an ancient Three Barrel urban legend.
PREPARATION
The cave has many traps that be very deadly especially in elite settings. You will also be fighting several creatures which inlude bats, wheeps, skeleteons, wraiths, and pirates. A rogue is not required but it's recommended in order to have someone who can evade the traps when levers are pulled. There are no trap boxes to disable but there are levers and switches that need to be used.
Everyone should be buffed with Fire, Sonic, and Cold Resistance in order to survive the traps. Bring appropriate weapons for the abovementioned creatures. Also, you need to hve underwater action on even inside the quest because you need to swim in some parts of the cave.
QUEST GUIDE/WALKTHROUGH
As you enter the cave, there will be bats that will come to attack you. After you defeat them, there will be two options for you. The first is to head straight north and the second option is head east. It's best to head straight north first. As you move forward, you will see an opening in the ground that reveals a body of water to explore. You will need to swim through shallow waters in order to get to a valve. Once you turn the valve, it will trigger a rush of water through the pipes and you will hear the creaking of a door opening. Head back to where you came in and this time head east. You will encounter rats along the way. You will once again swim through the water and when you reach the bend, turn right and head south. You will need to swim once again. Take the eastern route. At the end of it, you can turn right an dyou will see sonic traps being spewed by the walls. You need to swim across and avoid them all. Just keep moving until you reach dry land. There will be 2 skeletal archers that will shoot at you. Move a little further and you will find another set of bats to kill. Go up the steps and you will find a closed door. It's important for the party to stay together because there is a gate that will prevent those that were left behind from proceeding until all the skeletons are killed on the other side. A bunch of skeletal deckhands will attack you from behind. Even if you kill them, the door will not open. This is because you have to wait for more skeletons to spawn. There will be Skeletal Qartermasters and Skeletal archers. After the waves of skellies, a named SKeleton Cervantes will spawn. He is TObias' first mate. Once you kill him, the door will open. More Skeletal deckhands will spawn as you move your way in. You will see another door and this time there's a lever to open it.
Keep moving forward and follow the path to the right. But before you do, there is a hidden door with a shrine on the other side. Have the rogue open it or use Detect Secret Doors. Continue to follow the path and then turn at the first corner. This will lead you to a ship from a chasm in the cave floor. Just across you is a closed door with no levers or switches. This needs to be opened and it's where the final fight would be. There will be Skeleton archers protectin the ship. Drop down, kill them, and loot the chest. The chest has bow and arrow that will be used later in the quest. Jump down and swim deeper into the water until you get to to an icy area where a named Mephit Olatel will attack you. Kill it and get your loot. Next to the chest is a valve. If you turn it, fire traps will be activated. The fire jets will melt the ice allowing you to get to another area. (Note: if you went the other side, you will realize that you cannot go further because the water has turned to ice. The fire jets melted it). You need to swim deeper down this icy water to get to the valve. Get back to the ship and swim across, this time, going to the other path. The last valve needed to open the door up top can be found here.
There will be two Skeletal swashbucklers that will attack you near the newly-opened door. Kill them and move forward. There are several more skeletons to kill along the way. You will reach another closed door but there is a valve that opens it. When you enter the door, there are levers on opposite sides of the door, adorned with bullseyes.
Use the longbow and arrows you got from the chest, or any ranged weapons. You need to step on one side in the middle to target both levers. The middle floor you are standing on will open as the lever flips back. Jump into the water and turn the valve up top. This opens the door to the room where Tobias Warbuckle lives. Kill him and get your treasures. You have proven that Two Toed Tobias was not just an urban myth. Head back the Three Barrel Cove and tell Laurent Chastel what you found out.
