Chains of Promathia Missions Overview (Part 3) by - November 2, 2007

Chains of Promathia
Third Part

A Place to Return 6-2

If you've been following this guide step by step then you should be in Jeuno right now and your next destination should be the Grand Palace. Approach the place and you will get a cutscene afterwards talk to Pherimociel at G-6.

Warp to Misareaux Coast and go once more to the Dilapidated gate at I-11 but don't touch it unless you are ready, doing so will spawn three Notorious monsters called: Warder Aglaia, Warder Euphrosyne and Warder Thalia.

To be honest, these Notorious monsters don't really pose a threat and a party of 75's is overkilling it. You really only need a Damage dealer and a healer. Besides hitting you with physical hits, their only form of damaging you are with their Reactive Armor, which is another name for Shock Spikes and Electromagnetic Field, a move that strips Utsusemi and causes 90 points of damage more or less. To make matters worse, they can only use those attacks if the 3 of them are awake; yes, you have guessed right, they can be slept and in doing so will negate the opportunity for them to use their only 2 trademark moves.

So really this fight is a breeze.

After beating them, check the gate you touched to spawn them and you'll finish this mission.

More Questions than Answers 6-3

Go back to Jeuno and speak with Pherimociel again in Ru'Lude Gardens at G-6 for a cutscene, go upstairs and check the door leading to the Audience Chamber for another cutscene. Leave Jeuno and head to Selbina, once there talk to Mathilde. She's at the Weaver's Guild at H-9 to get the last cutscene in this mission.

Interlude: Boss fight coming up and one of the hardest IF NOT the hardest of all CoP. Level cap is 60. Right off the bat I'm going to say that everyone hitting on the boss needs a ninja sub. The upcoming boss hits hard and hits AoE so if you're not subbing Ninja you're basically just being a MP sponge. Healers should bring anything that restores MP, forget cookies you won't have time to rest. Also be sure to bring Reraise earrings, even as a white mage you have to bring earrings so you can save on MP. The less time resting for MP the more chances to beat this mission you have.

Melee should bring attack food or accuracy food, potions, icarus wings and shihei of course. This mission can cost a lot of money if you keep losing, so be sure to do a few dry runs just in case.

One to be Feared 6-4

Here it is, many will say this is the hardest mission in the entire CoP storyline. I have to be honest I went ½ with a dry run included but that is because we had a kickass team.

To start things off head to Bastok and back to Cid at Metalworks and speak with him to start a cutscene.

After the cutscene you are told to head to the Sealion's Den, where is that you might ask. You have to travel to Tavnazian Safehold and go to the basement, down here you have a fork one of them leads to the Aqueducts and the other to the Sealion's Den.

Examining the iron door lets you enter the fight. Here’s a piece of advice: enter and view the cutscene and after it's done go out to save up around 4-5 minutes worth of time in the battle arena. You get 45 minutes instead of the usual 30, and even that’s short, so time is the key in this fight.

Once everyone has checked the door, viewed the cutscene, and gone out, get ready for the fight of your lives!

What’s really cool about the battle arena (apart from the intro cutscene) is that you fight on board an airship with other airships around you. Anyways once you're in buff up, eat your food and rest because here comes the first wave.

Mammet-22 Zeta x5

Yeah, your first round is against these guys again back from mission 2-5; instead of 3 you get 5 this time and with them not being your only mob you really want to get them out of the way as fast as you can.

It's the same strategy from before, they can change jobs and yellow liquid stops this for 30 seconds. Each Mammet drops yellow liquid when killed. The good news is that these guys are much weaker than the 2-5 version, the only have 4k HP each. They resist sleep except when using Elemental Seal and can be binded or Shadowbinded, this is especially recommended because it lasts much longer than bind.

The bad news is that kiting isn't much of an option any more due to the arena size, so you're left with tanking them. If you brought a Paladin he can hold up to 2, any Melee with Utsusemi can blink tank a Mammet. Jobs with pets like Beastmaster, Summoner, Dragoon or Puppetmaster can use them to tank as well. 5 Mammets and 6 Party members, obviously the white mage (if you brought one) won't tank one so you better hope you have good tanking jobs. When I did this I came as Black Mage and Slept my Mammet and helped a melee kill off his mammet quickly, the Mammet got a few good hits on me but that same melee (forgot job) managed to kill the Mammet in time and helped out.

Objectives: Do not die, use as little items as possible and do not USE 2 HOURS.
Have someone use a timer, if at 10 minutes or below then you're good to go if not then you might want to retry. Second Wave coming up!

Omega Weapon

Holy crap this is one of the legendary final fantasy bosses. He looks badass, kicks ass and looks good doing it.

Not everything will look bad once you beat the Mammets; everyone will regain both HP and MP but weakened party members will still be weak. Omega uses a lot of AoE attacks so keep those shadows up and running, as it has 14k HP and goes berserk at the 25% benchmark. Killing off this big guy as fastest as possible is very important.

Omega comes with a large arsenal ready to kick ass and most of it hurts really bad.

You should never attack Omega from behind for it will use Rear Laser + Petrification, think of this attack like a Spike Flail only not so deadly, you don't die from it but if you're lacking a White Mage and you get petrified then you just cost your team a slot.

Ion Fluxx is a cone attack that paralyzes people in that radius so unless you're the tank the rest should be at his sides.

Guided Missible does 400 damage to a Paladin and around 700 to any other job, good thing Utsusemi absorbs this attack.

Target Analysis works exactly like Diabolos Ultimate Terror as in it absorbs multiple attributes but it can be absorbed by utsusemi.

Discharger gives Omega a Magic shield that protects against all spells thrown at him although Astral Flow and Elemental Weapon skills still work on him. Dispel or Magic Finale won't remove the buff but a good way to see when it's gone is when the self induce Shock Spikes (25 damage) he gets from this skill no longer does damage.

At 25% Omega will start using Hyper Pulse, it does binds and does AoE damage stripping people of Shadows. Very deadly move.

Finally you get Pile Pitch, this move is similar to the Tonberry's Throad Stab where in target's HP falls down all the way to 5% remaining and it also resets hate.

Using a CCB Polymer prevents Omega from using any of his special moves for a minute, truly a blessing from heaven!

Checking the price on the Polymer I can see that it has dropped down from the 150k I had to pay months ago, it's not a steady 35k so I don't want to hear people complaining!

All persons in the party should have a CCB Polymer as it makes this fight and the next much more easier. Also, if you're a Paladin don't use your 2 hour here because Pile Pitch will make you lose hate and you will be wasting a nice 2 hour in invincible.

Try and use your Icarus Wings on Omega to kill it quickly and preserve your 2 hours for the next battle. If the timer says 25 minutes or less have passed, then you're doing A-OK. If not, don't retry but don't go trigger happy with your 2 hours unless you can speed it up in the next fight. Third and final wave.

Ultima Weapon

Now it's the turn of Omega's buddy, Ultima Weapon has 15k HP and has double attack a wider range of skills than Omega.

Ultima will use the following skills depending on his health %, between 100% and 70% he will use Chemical Bomb; it's another Cone attack move but instead of Paralyze like Omega does it throws Elegy (slow), it's so strong you need 2 erases to completely remove it. Particle Shield; Basically a defense boost but it can be easily removed with Dispel or a Bard's Magic Finale. Wirecutter; Just a strong attack that deals around 400 to a Paladin it can be absorbed by utsusemi although it will cost you 2 of your shadows.

After that initial arsenal of attacks we go to his widest selection happening in between 70% and 40% starting with Nuclear Waste; At first it looks like it didn't affect you at all but in reality it drops your magic resistance on all elements by -50 and right after this attack Ultima will continue with one of the following attacks that may do up to 490.

Cryojet; It does ice damage and paralyzes its target. Flame Thrower; It does fire damage and causes plague on the target. High-Tension Discharger; It does lightning damage and stuns the target. Hydro Canon; It does water damage and poisons the target. Turbofan; It does wind damage and silences the target.

Ultima gains 1 new move from 40% to 20% in Equalizer which is a physical attack that deals 300-400 to Paladins and 600-900 to the rest. It can be absorbed by utsusemi. He also repeats Chemical Bomb and Particle Shield.

Ultima gets his final move between 20% and his death in Antimatter; a powerful ranged attack that deals in between 300 and 900, it ignores utsusemi and blink but it has a 5 second recharge time giving you some breathing space for heals. He also repeats Particle Beam. This is where Ultima will start spamming moves so get those CCB Polymer's and 2 hours ready because you're going all out.

After beating that onslaught of bosses you will warp to Lufaise Meadows and get a cutscene, after the cutscene ends you get the Ducal Guard's Ring which gives you 5 charges (no recharge) to Jeuno.

Congratulations you defeated chapter 6.

In the Light of the Crystal

Chains and Bonds 7-1

Don't use your Ducal Guard's ring right away, the next cutscene is right next to you. Head to Tavnazian Safehold and zone in for a cutscene, then head downstairs into Sealion's Den for another cutscene. Head back out into Tavnazian Safehold and check the Sewer entrance located at I-7 in the basement for a third cutscene. Afterwards go upstairs to the top floor and check the Walnut door at K-7 for your last cutscene.

Flames in the Darkness 7-2

Exit Tavnazian Safehold through the Misareaux coast route and check the Dilapidated Gate at F-7 for a cutscene then head back to Tavnazian Safehold, go downstairs and zone into Sealion's Den and speak with Sueleen who’s at H-6 for a cutscene. Afterwards warp back to Jeuno and enter Ru'Lude Gardens, go to the palace and you will get a cutscene when you are close enough. Finally head to Upper Jeuno and click on the Marble Bridge Door at F-7 for your last cutscene.

Fire in the Eyes of Men 7-3

Buy a snow lily and head to Bastok by airship or if you have Tele-Dem along with escape in your party you can teleport to Konschtat Highlands grab a chocobo and ride to the Gusgen Mines entrance then hug the right wall until you zone and escape. This will bring you to North Gustaberg just outside the entrance to Oldton Movalpolos which is exactly where you're suppose to be heading. Neat, huh?

Once in go talk to Twinkbrix and trade him your snow lily to get him to warp you to Mine Shaft #2716 or if you didn't bring a snow lily you can play his dice game until you win and get warped there. Check the shaft entrance when you zone in.

After the cutscene warp out and head to Bastok, talk to Cid in Metalworks for a cutscene. You must wait one Vana'diel day (1 hour; earth time) to get Cid to give you his second and final cutscene.

If by any chance he doesn't give it to you after 1 hour then try re-zoning.

Calm before the Storm 7-4

After getting your last cutscene with Cid you have to wait another hour to talk to Cid once again. A quick recap for this mission: You'll be fighting 3 Nms in 3 different locations, they are not hard at all. In fact, they can be solo'ed by some jobs but I still recommend to duo it with a healer, the more the better anyway. They can be done in any order but I'll put them here just how I beat them.

Misareaux Coast

Once you're in Misareaux Coast head to E-7 and click on the Storage Compartment to spawn a Buggard NM called Boggelmann. It has around 7k HP and uses a Dark Knight's 2 hour, Blood Weapon, when he's low. He also uses a move called Scrutum which ups his defense, it can be dispelled. If you're trying to kite it I must warn you that this boggelmann builds resistance very quickly to Gravity and Bind so beware.

After killing him check the Storage Compartment again to get a cutscene finishing this part of the mission.

Bibiki Bay

Grab a teleport Mea and ride a chocobo all the way to Bibiki Bay, once in head down the road towards F-6, you will see a cave which is where you will need to enter. Once in you will see a ??? on the floor. Clicking on it will spawn a Sea Monk NM called Dalham.

Dalham uses, somewhat, a move resembling Hundred Fists but not quite. You see he will use an animation at around 70% which lets him attack twice per round then again at 40% letting him attack thrice per round and at 15-10% it will finally gain Hundred Fists speed making him deadly if you take too long to finish him off.

After you kill him off go check the ??? on the floor again to get a cutscene and to finish this part of the mission.

Carpenter's Landing

Two down, one more to go. Grab a teleport Holla and ride a chocobo up to Jugner Forest and enter Carpenter's Landing at J-8, you can ride your chocobo inside don't make the same mistake I did.

Go to I-9 to find the ??? near the water. Clicking on the ??? will spawn a Tonberry NM called Cryptonberry Executor and has Ninja as a job. Dealing damage to Cryptonberry will make him summon 3 more Cryptonberry tonberries to fight you; Black Mage, Summoner and Thief. Don't bother sleeping the 3 minor Nms they are very resistant. All 4 Tonberries can use their job 2 hours so that means: Manafont, Astral Flow, Perfect Dodge and Mijin Gakure (This can do up to 4k worth of raw damage if you're not careful). A helpful advice is that the Ninja Tonberry will always use Mijin Gakure at exactly 3 minutes after he spawns the trio of tonberries so you can either kill him before 3 minutes have passed or have someone kite the Ninja because he will then lose his 2-hour if the kiter is out of range. Cryptonberry Exegutor has around 5k HP.

The other dangerous tonberry is the Summoner one, his Astral Flow can do up to 800 damage to a level 75 player, barspells help lower the damage. You can tell what Astral Flow element he will use by the pet he has outside with him during the battle so get the correct element.

After all 4 tonberries are dead check the ??? on the floor to get a cutscene and to finish this part of the mission.

After you have beaten all 3 of the NM's go back to Bastok and speak with Cid at Metalworks for a cutscene then head to Tavnazian Safehold, go downstairs, zone into the Sealion's Den and speak with Sueleen to get your final cutscene for 7-4.

Interlude: For this upcoming battle I recommend a healer and 5 damage dealing jobs or 4 Damage dealers and a Paladin tank. You need to do a lot of spike damage quickly so most parties rarely use either Paladins or Ninjas but Paladin is good for keeping hate when the melee let loose their entire arsenal of Weapon skills and 2 hours.

Bring Icarus Wings and attack food, mages should bring whatever they think is convenient for the fight. Reraise earrings or scrolls if you don't have a mage with the reraise spell and remember you don't lose experience any longer and gain 1000 worth of experience.

The Warrior's Path 7-5

Go back to Sealion's Den and get ready for your second airship battle vs... Tenzen! Yeah he couldn't handle the pressure and turned on you so now you get to kick his fragile ass.
That’s not all, though; he also recruited to his cause those 3 little annoying tarus that stole your pendant back in the beginning, and what’s worse is that you can't target them and kill them but they can throw spells right back at you.

The three tarus are Black Mage, White Mage and a Ranger. They are very annoying because they can't be targeted but they are not deadly if you're careful.

The Black Mage taru can cast: Thundaga II, Firaga II, Waterga III, Thunder III, Blizzard III, Stun, Blind, Drain, Sleepga, Bio III, Choke, Burn, Rasp and Frost.

White Mage Taru will cast: Holy, Diaga II, Banishga II, Silence, Slow, Paralyze, Cure IV, Cure V, Protect IV, Shell III, Haste and Regen III.

The Taru Ranger will... just shoot arrows at you.

Tenzen on the other hand as you might have guessed thanks to his Katana called Phoenix is a Samurai and as such will use a great bow and a great katana to inflict damage on the party. He has the same weapon skills as the Samurai job but with different names. Below are the names:

Amatsu: Torimai -> 2 hit weapon skill resembling Tachi: Enpi, does around 200-300 damage.

Amatsu: Kazakiri -> Believed to be the alter ego to Tachi: Jinpu, does 150-250 damage.

Amatsu: Yukiarashi -> Similar name with Tachi: Yukikaze and same blind effect, does around 350-450 damage.

Amatsu: Tsukioboro -> It causes silence just like Tachi: Gekko, it does around 450-550 damage.

Amatsu: Hanaikusa -> It causes Paralysis just like Tachi: Kasha but this one does a lot more, 900-1000 worth of damage.

Amatsu: Tsukikage
-> This weapon skill is not similar to any of the Samurai ones but it has one purpose it does around 400-500 damage and closes the Tenzen's Skillchain known as Cosmic Elucidation.

Oisoya: His only Great bow weapon skill. It does 1700-1800 damage and ignores Utsusemi, people say it's Nama's Arrow in disguise (Relic Bow weapon skill).

At one point Tenzen will eat his own food called Shogun Riceball, this will increase his attack, defense and magic defense.

Now, at some point Tenzen will use his Samurai 2 hour ability, Meikyo Shisui (he can do it several times), and starts his very own self Skill chain. The unhappy user of this onslaught is whoever has hate at the time. Here comes the lucky part, when he's done with his three weapon skills he may or may not use Amatsu: Tsukikage. This weapon skill ignores utsusemi, is ranged and will always hit except if you somehow manage to use Third Eye. The second it does it will trigger Tenzen's own skillchain called Cosmic Elucidation, it will hit everyone in range for over 1000 worth of damage and even if you survive the attack you will get ejected from the battle arena just like in the Snoll Tzar fight.

This is why I said to bring jobs that could do huge spike damaging weapon skills, icarus wings and some good 2 hours to kill Tenzen as fast as possible. A Black Mage nuking the shit out of him also works. A good strategy used in end game linkshells is to bring a Red Mage with a Dark Knight as a subjob. He would act as support healer to the White Mage and when he sees Tenzen using Meikyo Shisui and starting his onslaught of attacks he is to use his 2 hour; Chainspell and start spamming stun on Tenzen rendering him useless for 1 minute. Melees of course need to nuke him fast before the minute passes by.

You don't have to completely kill Tenzen to win the battle, just bring him down to roughly 15% of his health and you will win the fight along with 1000 experience points for your efforts.

I don't remember well what my setup was but I do know I was a Black Mage and we had a Ranger and a Samurai. Ranger went nuts with Sleeping Potions + Sidewinder + Barrage + Sidewinder + Eagle Eye Shot. Although the Samurai was the sickest, He used a combination of his 2 hour Meikyo Shisui, Meditate and an Icarus wing to do the following skill chain: Tachi: Yukikaze + Tachi: Gekko = Fragmentation (Thunder Magic Burst) + Tachi: Kasha = Light (Thunder Magic Burst) + Tachi: Yukikaze + Tachi: Gekko = Fragmentation (Thunder Magic Burst).

I had trouble keeping up with the magic bursts because it took me by surprise, he would later claim he was testing to see how well it did, go figure. As you can imagine Tenzen didn't last long after all those attacks coming at him, the tarus didn't even try to heal him. Ingrates!

I hope you packed your swimsuit and sunscreen. Welcome to Al' Taieu.

Congratulations you defeated chapter 7.
