Chapter 4 - The Cradles of Children Lost

Sheltering Doubt 4-1

Head to Tavnazian Safehold for a change in chapters and a cutscene. Good news -- you can use the Auction house in this city now which will be linked to the Jeuno Auction house and you can also do the Lufaise Meadows outpost quest.

Go upstairs to the Walnut door at K-10 and talk to Despachiaire then head to J-6 to talk to Justinus also on the same floor and finally go to Misereaux Coast and click on the Dilapidated Gate at I-11 to end this short mission.

Interlude: Yep, another boss fight coming. Good news, though -- my recommended setup for this mission is 6 Black Mages, I shit you not, manaburning this mission is the fastest way to victory. You can also do 5 Black Mages and a sleeper (Bard, Red Mage, White Mage (Black Mage sub for elemental seal)). The level cap has been upped to 50 so Black Mages can burn with Ancient Magic Freeze. Fun times.

The Savage 4-2

If for some reason you are not using my manaburn strategy above you will need mistmelts for this fight which brings Ouryu down to the ground. Get 2 Hippogryph Tailfeathers from, naturally, Hippogryphs in Rivern Site #A01 and trade them to Ferchinne at G-9 in Tavnazian Safehold to gain mistmelts.

Well then talk to Justinus at J-6 and head to Riverne Site #B01 for a cutscene, you will need 1 Giant Scale for the unstable displacement leading to the Monarch Linn. Head to the Monarch Linn again.

As I mentioned before the fight is capped at level 50, so gear accordingly. Now if you are a group of Black Mages, then manaburn it; if not, then I will have to tell you right away no one should be hitting him from behind because if you get hate you will trigger spike flail, a very powerful AoE. Also, Ouryu is an earth-based dragon so earth elemental spells such as Slow will have a VERY hard time landing if not at all, so don't bother. When he begins to fly quickly, use a mistmelt to bring him down. At around 80-50%ish he will use Invincible. Bring him down to 30% to win the fight and start a cutscene with the all-time King of Dragons, Bahamut himself.

The Secrets of Worship 4-3

Go back to Tavnazian Safehold and talk to Justinus in the top floor at J-6, then check the walnut door at K-7 for a cutscene. Now before leaving Tavnazian Safehold you will be entering a level 50 capped zone, so gear up accordingly. Also, this mission can be done with an alliance, so bring as many people as you can.

Zone out in Misareaux Coast and go to G-4 where you will see an iron gate, this is the entrance to the Sacrarium where you need to go. Once inside you need 2 Coral Keys which are a rare / ex and drop from Fomors in the area. Next will be to kill the Keremet, he's a corpse NM; he spawns at H-8 in the chapel map every 20 minutes or so. It's recommended to kill all 12 skeletons in both hallways before fighting this NM because when he's attacking all will link. Be sure to silence the NM and just like undead mobs don't use ice elemental magic on him. If he charms party members then sleep them and keep fighting him. After you kill him you get the Sealion Crest Key, it's EX. Make sure you give it to someone who didn't lot the other 2 Coral Keys before. Now head to H-7 and you will find a door with two keyholes a small one and a large one for your keys. Have one of your two Coral Key users trade their key to the small hole and you will hear a click which is your go for the Sealion Crest Key user to trade his to the big hole opening the door. Inside go to the wooden gate at G-8 and click it to get a cutscene. Now exit.

You must fight a NM ghost in one of the classrooms in the Sacrarium, there are 3 on the north side of where you are and 3 on the south side. Inside of each classroom there is a ??? target, click on it until Old Professor Mariselle spawns along side his 2 pupils (Mariselle's pupils).

The pupils are weak and easily beaten but the Professor will spawn more if he's still alive. The pupils CAN'T be slept. Once you kill the Professor check the ??? target again for a key item called Reliquarium. Go back to H-7 with the 2 hole doors and use the second Coral Key (the first one broke after using it) and the Sealion Crest Key and go up to the wooden gate to get your final cutscene of this mission. Whew, you can tell these missions are fairly more longer than the Zilart missions.

Slanderous Utterings 4-4

Go back to Tavnazian Safehold and climb to the top back to where Despachiaire is at K-10 and speak to him to get a cutscene. Afterwards, go downstairs to the bottom level and enter the Sealion's Den, at the end there's a gate. Click on it for your final cutscene on this chapter.

Congratulations, you've just defeated Chapter 4.

The Return Home

The Enduring Tumult of War 5-1

Head to northern San d'Oria and you will get your chapter changed to 5. Go to the Cathedral and into the manuscript room and talk to Chasalvige. He will send you to the Port. Head to the San d'Orian Port and speak with Anoki and he will say he hasn't seen Jack, well that was a waste of time. Anyways take the airship to Jeuno and then to Bastok. Upon zoning in Port Bastok you will get a cutscene. After the cutscene go to Metalworks in Bastok Market and speak with Cid.

Get a friend or two (level 75 is recommended to finish this quickly) and warp to Beaudicine Glacier, in here go to the Pso'Xja tower at F-7 and enter, this tower is uncapped so don't worry about equipment issues. At the end of this single path you will find a stone door which when checked will trigger the spawn of a golem NM called Nunyunuwi. It has only 3500 hp but it comes with a high auto regen at 100 hp per tick. Killing him quickly is the best bet as you might have guessed. Manaburn him or do a Dark skillchain to finish him off very fast, bloodpacts are also useful. Keep spamming damage until you kill him. When you kill him you will have access to Promyvion – Vahzl, oh man you thought you were done with prommies? Think again!

Interlude: Yes, boss fight coming but this time there's not much to say, job setup is your standard low level party: a tank, 2 damage dealers, healer, refresher and 6th spot is a toss up. Advice: try and bring a Ranger for the Memory Receptacle.

Desires of Emptiness 5-2

Go back to Jeuno or Al Zhabi to regroup, change jobs, get items and gear up (level 50 cap). Head back to the Pso'Xja tower in Beaducine Glacier at F-7 and zone in past the stone door where you fought the golem NM. Once inside you will see this is just like the other promies except you will have to fight some boss fights before 'the' boss fight and there are 5 floors instead of 4.

There's also another change from the past 3 prom runs; there are Memory fluxes on floors 3, 4 and 5 which spawn NMs (which are actually the 3 bosses from the prom runs from chapter 1 with another name). Have a Ranger with widescan scan for MR's up to the third floor then go to the first Memory flux (widescanned), and fight your first mini boss which is the dem boss in disguise. He's called Propagator. Next comes the mea boss, Solicitor, and finally the holla boss as Ponderer (remember to bring poison potions for his AoE sleep). After defeating each boss -> CHECK THE MEMORY FLUX FOR A CUTSCENE, DON'T FORGET! then go look for the MR and warp until you're at the fifth floor and you've defeated the Memory flux boss at this floor. Afterwards, go and look for the zone to the Spire of Vahzl by looking for the castle figure in the distance.

Once inside, fully rest and prepare for a long battle. You will face the 3 prommie bosses again but with a different twist. All 3 are in the battle arena, but fear not -- you won't fight them all at the same time...well not exactly at least. From left to right you have Dem boss, Mea boss and Holla boss. Here is how they work. Pick one and only one and put some distance between the other 2 and start killing them. The other 2 won't move at all until around 20% hp of the boss you picked, meaning you better finish him quickly. The boss that aggros depends on the boss that you pick for example: If you picked the Dem boss then the Holla boss attacks; if got the Holla boss then you get the Mea boss and if you grabbed the Mea boss then get ready for the Dem boss.

I'm not going to give out strategies because it's basically the same fights as in Chapter 1 except a little harder, and that shouldn't pose a problem because you're 20 levels stronger. Walk in the park.

After beating this fight head to Beaudicine Glacier and go to the tower at I-7 and speak with the three taru taru. No cutscene for doing this.

Interlude: Yeah, another fight coming but this doesn't need much of a job setup as you would think as you can read from the mission name that there are three paths, meaning 3 fights. Well, kind of; there's one path where you can bring an alliance and kill stuff together so I'm not counting that but for the Snoll BCNM I recommend pure DDs including Black Mages. Don't bring tanks, don't bring healers (I really hope you guys have multiple 60 level jobs). For the second battle, Summoners are recommended but not necessary.

Three Paths 5-3

Start by heading to Bastok and then to Bastok Market -> Metalworks and talking to Cid. You will get a cutscene and then he will make you choose which path you want to take. You can choose whatever you want because you can do whatever path you want and even do 2 or 3 at a time, it doesn't matter.

I'm going to start the paths from easiest to hardest, here goes.

Tenzen Path:

Go to La Theine Plateau at G-6 and click on the ??? target. IMPORTANT – READ: click on the ??? target until you get the right cutscene, you will know it is right when you see Tenzen in it. In one of the past updates they added a Carbuncle quest and that will be the first cutscene you will get if you haven't gotten it yet. DO NOT FORGET TO DO THIS. If you forget, you will have to redo the entire mission and it's one long son of a bitch, I know this because it happened to me.

Before going to Beaudicine Glacier I must tell you this is a level 50 cap mission so gear up. Warp to Beaudicine Glacier and go to the Pso'Xja tower at J-8, it's very close to Fei'Yin. Once inside you must pass 16 gates which are guarded by a Gargoyle NM which must be defeated so you can advance. Once he's dead you have around 10-15 seconds to go in before the gate closes again. Don't be a hero and try to open the door from behind to let your buddy in, it will warp you out of the tower. No one should be AFK doing this; if they are, then have them die and tractor them inside, period.

A thief can try and pick the lock to avoid the Gargoyles but it's not a 100% chance so it's really not worth it. Besides, the Gargoyles aren't that strong. Also, sometimes the Gargoyles won't spawn when touching the gate. When done with the 16 gates you will see an elevator that takes you down. SNEAK UP and go down and touch the Avatar Gate for a cutscene.

After the cutscene go back to Upper Jeuno and talk to Monberaux in the infirmary and receive the key item: Envelope from Monberaux. Next head to Ru'Lude Gardens and talk to Pherimociel whos at G-6. Go back to Monberaux at the infirmary in Upper Jeuno and speak with him, this time he won't give you a cutscene.

Exit Upper Jeuno on the Battalia Downs exit and find a blank target on the ground just outside the gate. Check it twice for a cutscene and a key item called Delkfutt Recognition Device. Go back to Jeuno and go inside Delkfutt's tower. Approach the cermet gate at H-5 in the first floor. Touch it to spawn a NM called Disaster Idol. It's not hard, as a party of 75s will destroy it. It will cast spells depending on the day so: darksday: drain, aspir, etc. thundersday: thundaga, thunder 4, etc., you get the picture. After killing the idol check the gate for a cutscene.

Now we have to go back to Beaudicine Glacier again, but don't worry as no fights are involved (unless you aggro of course to a Pso'Xja tower capped at 60 at H-10, it's close to Battalia Downs). Bring silent oils and prism powders and enter. Follow the wall on your right all the way around the outside of the map until you get back to (I-8), then turn west and drop down. Go south into a hallway which leads to the next room, then turn right to face North. The elevator should be visible.

Before taking the elevator put sneak and invisible on before heading down. Check the avatar gate for a cutscene then return to Bastok -> metalworks in Bastok market and talk to Cid again to finish this long path. 1 down 2 to go...hurrah.

Louverance Path:

Back to Tavnazian Safehold and to talking to Despachiaire at K-10 in the top floor, it has come to my attention that you might have to speak with him twice but I cannot confirm this.

Go to Windurst Woods and talk to Perih Vashai at K-7 for a cutscene. Afterwards grab a chocobo, here at Windurst or teleport mea and head to Bibiki Bay and board the Manaclipper heading to Purgonorgo Isle. There, click on the Warmachine NPC at H-11. Warp or take the boat back to Windurst and head to Yoran-Oran in Windurst Walls at E-5; notice that you won't get a cutscene so don't be surprised.

Alright, time for the fight! This is a 60 level cap BCNM, gear up accordingly and head to Bastok. Your destination is Oldton Movalpolos.  A good shortcut is to get a teleport dem and chocobo to Gusgen mines. Hug the right wall and continue doing it until you zone, in here use “escape” and you will be right outside Oldton Movalpolos. Neat.

Now to get to the BCNM there are another 2 shortcuts besides going the long way that no one wants to do. The first one and the one my group used was to roll dice with Twinkbrix right at the entrance for your key item which lets you inside the BCNM. You have to pay him between 1 and 10,000 gil with the latter option being the easiest way to getting the Key Item, choose how much to pay and roll until you get the key item then pay him an additional 2,000 and he will warp you directly to the BCNM.

The other way is to buy a Snow Lily from the Auction House under Materials -> Alchemy and trade it to Tarnotik inside Oldton Movalpolos at K-10.

Choose either way and rest when you arrive at Mine Shaft #2716.

Here's the outlook for this battle: you will fight 4 Moblins which are really Goblins but from the Movalpolos area (SE isn't very original) and a Bugbear, he looks like a bigger and deformed goblin with a mask on. They all come with jobs which makes this BCNM tricky:

Swipostik = Thief

Movamuk = White Mage

Chekochuk = Black Mage

Trikotrak = Red Mage

and the Bugbear is a Warrior. All of the mobs mentioned above come with their respective 2 hour abilities. To make matters worse the Bugbear attacks just as fast as a Monk making his 2 hour very deadly.

The bad news is that they are all very resistant to Sleep although Elemental Seal will give you a breathing space for a couple of seconds. The recommended strategy is to silence the Moblin mages and kite them while your main tank grabs the Bugbear. Your main concern is to kill the Moblins fast while your tank distracts the Bugbear. 2 healers are recommended in this fight so one can solely focus on your main tank and the other on the kiters. Overall this isn't a hard fight.

After you win, head back to Bastok market and speak with Cid in Metalworks. You will need one last cutscene before finishing this path but you must farm a gold key from weak moblins in Newton Movalpolos after getting the key warp back to Mineshaft #2716 and touching the BCNM entrance to get a cutscene. After you finish it go back to Cid in metalworks and talk to him to get the final cutscene for this path.

Ulmia Path:

This is by far the hardest mission in CoP. Why? Because you must fight 2 BCNM battles and both are hard. I highly recommend that your party have some good firepower for this mission, mainly Summoners, Black Mages and DD'ers with high spike damage.

Go to San d'Oria and talk to Hinaree in Southern San d'Oria at A-6, then zone into Port San d'Oria for a cutscene. Go to the Manuscript room in the Cathedral in Northern Sandoria and talk to Chasalvige (L-6). Take the airship to Jeuno and then to Windurst and go to the Rhinostery in Windurst Waters and speak with Kerutoto (J-8). She might give you the Diabolos quest if you talk to her so be sure to get the correct cutscene (talk twice to her). Go to Windurst Walls and talk to Yoran-Oran at E-5.

Gear up for a level 50 capped fight and the last level 50 fight in this expansion. Summoners are recommended for this fight to make it easier by the way. By any means of transportation head to Attowa Chasm passing through the Maze of Shakrami and to the top to Boneyard Gully for a BCNM against 3 mithran trackers (Bounty hunters). Check the Dark Miasma for a cutscene and entrace to the BCNM. Advance a little and soon you should see 3 figures standing there, those are the mithran trackers. Shikaree X, Shikaree Y and Shikaree Z (where does SE get all of their names?). They come with a new surprise, just like the Ark Angels, each of them comes with 2 jobs and two 2-hour ability.

Shikaree X = Beastmaster with a Rabbit pet and Ninja double wielding daggers.

Shikaree Y = Dark Knight and Monk with a Scythe.

Shikaree Z = Dragoon with a Wyvern of course and White Mage using a Polearm.

All 3 trackers have Regain, do not confuse with “REGEN”. Contrary to Regen where you recover HP over time, with Regain you recover TP over time making them spam a lot of Weapon Skills. They can do Scythe, Dagger and Polearm weapon skills AND skill chains which makes them a very deadly trio. All 3 trackers have around 2,000 HP and their pets have a little over 900 HP.

Strategy:

Here is why I told you to get Summoners. 2 Astral Flows will wipe out their pets and leave all 3 trackers very weak, a third Astral Flow will clear the battle arena completly. Summoners will shine in this BCNM. A manaburn group of Black Mages will also clear this BCNM fight quickly.

If you do not have either of the above (shame on you), then the advice is to Elemental Seal Sleepga II or I if you don't have a Black Mage (shame on you) and kill the trackers quickly. Leave the pets for the last or have someone kite them if they wake up before time. Gravity works wonders.

You don't lose experience for dying in this fight so if you're going to wipe be sure to wipe far from where they started to fight you. They will recover lost HP but any dead pet or tracker will remain dead until the remaining of the BCNM.

An important note if you're planning on fighting all trackers simultaneously: be aware that while the trackers will fight whoever has hate, when they all have TP they will pick a sole target and weapon skill and possibly skill chain on said target leaving him dead or very weak.

After the fight head back to town and sell or put in your mog house your level 50 gear and take out your level 60 gear. We are going to fight the hardest fight in CoP now. Don't bring healers to this fight because you won't need them. White Mages and Red Mages should not be used. Same with Ninja and Thief due to their horrible 2 hours. Corsairs and Bards should only be considered if you have an extra slot for their buffs. Bring Icarus wings, Opo-Opo Necklaces along with Sleep potions. Get 300 TP, yes it's expensive but you will thank me later when you win this BCNM. A Paladin, while weak on attacking, will be good for initial hate. Bring one if you can.

Grab a teleport Vahzl and head to Uleguerand Range in Xarcabard. Inside Uleguerand Range go to Bearclaw Pinnacle at J-9 which is where you will be fighting.

You will fight a Snoll Tzar which is a bomb type enemy who is weak to fire magic. You can buff all you want inside the BCNM but the second you enter the ice circle surrounding the Snoll he will start attacking. What's the catch, you ask? You have 45 seconds to beat the Snoll or you will automically lose this battle. This is the reason why this is the hardest fight in CoP. You need a good setup to actually win this fight along with good 2 hours.

Here is what will happen: He will grow in size at 15 and 30 seconds which will up his attack and at 45 seconds he will use a special move which will do heavy damage on your party. EVEN if you somehow manage to survive you will be ejected from the BCNM and lose the fight. This is serious business.

How to win this then? The Snoll Tzar has around 7500 HP and 45 seconds is extremely low. You have to hit hard and fast. This is why you should sleep yourself to 300 TP with the opo necklace and have an Icarus Wing with you. ALL MELEES. 2 Rangers can use Side Winder at 300 TP Skill Chaining Reverbation for extra Damage. Using Icarus Wing -> Side Winder x2 -> Reverbation -> Eagle Eye Shot and finally Barrage if you have time. All of this does huge damage and the more Rangers the better, or you can Manaburn it with Black Mages or Summoners or just simply throw a load of DD'ers at it.

A good idea is to bring a Paladin with 300 TP and use Spirits Within at the start of the fight -> provoke -> flash -> Icarus Wing -> Spirits or Vorpal Blade whichever is better and then 2 hour Invincible; all of this should use a max time of 10 seconds and should give you so much hate that the bomb will be on you for a few seconds while the rest of your party will hack away at the bomb.

If the tank dies then don't bother raising him or reraising. You don't lose experience and you have far too low time to even think about going back into fighting. Just cut your losses and try again.

The Snoll also has a range of attacks he will use on you besides the exploding move at the end. One of them is Berserk. Be thankful if he uses this because this BCNM just got a lot easier but sadly this is very rare. Cold Wave is one of his favorite moves he will be using, basically AoE Frost with 31 hp lost per tick. Don't bother healing, just go all out.

Hlemal Storm is a directional AoE attack that can do 600-1400 to a freaking Paladin, make sure you have your defensive buffs on if you are one. If not then good luck. Arctic Impact is another favorite move by the Snoll Tzar, AoE for 275 damage. Not too bad, considering the Snoll Tzar's attack is around 290 per hit.

After the april update the usage of Shu'Meyo Salts got a good improvement only taking 1 second to use in battle. You may be asking; 'what the hell is that?', well Shu'Meyo Salt is a quest item used to gain you an extra 20 seconds vs the Snoll Tzar. You can either quest it or buy it from the Auction House.

This is how it works: when used, you'll see a message that "The Snoll Tzar has begun to melt!". 7 and 14 seconds later, you see "The Snoll Tzar is emitting a large amount of steam." Finally, 21 seconds after the first message you see “The Snoll Tzar shakes off the salt!” The melting time does not count against you. You can use multiple salts in a given battle, but do not overlap their use, for it'll have "no effect".

Chances are you will find salts in the Auction house, but if for some reason you don't you can quest it by trading 2 Cluster Cores, which drop from Bomb type mobs in Lufaise Meadows or Misareaux Coast, or you can just buy it in the Auction House from Buffalostalker Dodzbraz in Uleguerand Range at F-9.

A few dry runs are recommended if you are feeling nervous about this mission; remember, you DON'T LOSE EXPERIENCE FOR DYING. Save your 2 hours and do some dry runs to know what to expect. The salts make this fight much easier and don't bother healing.

After beating this extremely hard mission, go by any means of transportation back to Bastok -> Bastok market -> Metalworks and talk to Cid on the second floor for a cutscene. If you're following my guide, then this is the last of the three paths and you will get an additional cutscene from Cid finishing this chapter. If not, then go do the next path.

Congratulations, you have just defeated Chapter 5.

Echoes of Time

For Whom the Verse is Sung 6-1

This is one of the most fun and interesting Chapters in the CoP story and you will meet an old Final Fantasy Nemesis...but I won't spoil it for you just yet.

Go to Ru'Lude Gardens and talk to Pherimociel at G-6 for a good dose of a cutscene. Then head to Upper Jeuno at F-7 and click on the Marble Bridge door to start a cutscene. Finally, go back to Ru'Lude Gardens and once you zone in you will get your last cutscene of this mission.

Interlude: Boss fight coming up at 6-2 but this interlude is about 6-4. That fight is right up there near the Snoll Tzar fight in difficulty; I will tell you why when we get to it. It is recommended that every Melee, including a Paladin if you take one as your tank, level a Ninja as a subjob for the 6-4 mission. It's on a 45 minute timer and that's not enough. A lot of the damage in that fight can be absorbed by utsusemi shadows giving your mages more breathing space.
